Gigi Hadid’s Mole Problem

Gigi Hadid is one of the hottest models in the fashion industry. She is young, beautiful, and even a great chef (she won a MasterChef battle btw). Gigi, like many other women, have little moles/beauty marks all along her body (below).

This past week, however, Vogue China and Victoria’s Secret were posting pictures that left fans a little confused.

Notice anything about these pictures? NO MOLES. Yes, it’s a small change, but it’s clearly noticeable throughout these snaps. A lot of her fans sent angry tweets and Facebook responses asking where her moles were and they wanted to see them back. The issue I have with this incident is they photoshopped nothing but some small dots on her body, but they send a huge message. Gigi is already thin, so no photoshopping was used to slim her down. But they do photoshop a small little cluster of moles on her body. Why?

I don’t have an issue with the way she looks at all. I think she is absolutely gorgeous with her little beauty marks and all. These may be considered “imperfections” by the industry. The thing is, all of us have imperfections. I have tons of moles/beauty marks just like Gigi all along my collarbone and neck. I don’t find them ugly or an object of insecurity. Just like Cindy Crawford, who was famous for her “imperfection”, she embraced it and became more popular because of it.

This is showing girls that your imperfections need to be removed or hidden. Now, the demographic of both ads is different strictly because of where they are located. Still, by doing this, it sends yet another message to young girls to change something about themselves. Not cool.
